TAB Austria produced arcade cabinets based on CD-i technology. These days, there is no support anymore for these arcades, so if you have a broken unit, you have to repair it yourself. This blue version is the Quizard 4, the final Arcade Cabinet based on CD-i technology.
As you can see, a CD-i 210 is inside:
The same technology is used in the first version of the Quizard CD-i machine (only the copy protectionin the MCU is different):
There is also a CD-i 210 inside. (I've never seen a different version)
The game itself looks like this:
How does it work? Team Europe explains: "Quizard is a Philips CDI based arcade system. Inside the cabinet you will find a CDI-Player and a board with an MCU on it. This board is also the interface to the push-buttons on the cabinet. The game is completely on the CD, using the external MCU just for copy protection."
Team Europe reworked the complete original MCU board and made it even better: It's 1/4 of the original size, the push buttons are included on the board and there is no external power needed anymore. With the included pins on the board, you can even use it inside an arcade-cabinet as a real replacement for the original board! Look at this:
Team Europe even proves it is working with the Quizard CD-i games:
The nice thing is: You can actually buy one of his home-made MCU boards for use with your own CD-i player. For 45 euros you receive a brand new interface board (fitted into a mega arduino case) including three MCU's (for use with Quizard 1, 3 and 4). The games are german only!
