Big Bang Show was a game developed by Infogrames in 1994 on the CD-i. It was back then published as a regional title in France only. In 1998 however (mind the year is correct!) because of the drought of CD-i titles, this title was 're-released' (perhaps just imported) to The Netherlands by the Multi Media Club (by that time the only source left to buy CD-i titles). The same thing happened with games like Effacer and Shaolin's Road on CD-i, which also until 1997 never got a release in The Netherlands. The thing with this title is that is almost doesn't exist on the internet. No screenshos are available, no videos are to be found, just the cover that we posted at Black Moon years back can be found on different places. It seems like no one ever tried this game and it seems be a rare piece.
The catalogue number is different than the regular Philips CD-i catalogue numbers. While the testing phase disc (from May, 1994) has a regular catalogue number reserved (8120055), the eventual product that was released in 1995 in France received the catalogue number BIGBAM24041, unique in the format of how Philips organized its CD-i catalogue.
The object of the game is to guide Sparky, a ball of energy, around a series of 100 game screens (like mazes). You must avoid obstacles, use objects which you collect (for example, water droplets to put out fires) and also your strategy to find the goal at the end of each level which allows you to progress. There are several options to the game... you can have full commentary from Professor Albertus (the creator of Sparky), a fast or slow moving game, quiz on/off and you can save your progress continuously. After you've completed a series of screens, you move either forwards or backwards in time. During the game you visit five different ages.. The Big Bang, Prehistoric times, The Middle Ages, The 20th Century and the future. Your enemies and objects to collect therefore vary in appearance considerably! There are some points in the game where you find yourself in an impossible situation. This is where the quiz can help. If you set this to ''on'', you can try and answer a question on the various ages which, if correct, will get you out of the hole.
The game can be played in french and english. No Digital Video Cartridge is required. But who has a copy to share some screens or video?
