CD-i member CD-i Fan shows us the insights of the Philips 21TCDI30/00 TV/CD-i combination. CD-i Fan: "I got this one as "leftover" at the CD-i studio I worked for (together with lots of other hardware). The ROM is a standard CDI210/40 R1.5, identical to one of my other players. So nothing special from a preservation point of view." Jorne: "So was this actually sold to consumers or not? I've heard mixed info about it. I remember hearing/reading that it was only used internally. It seems like everyone who has one of those TVs got it straight from Philips"
There are sometimes doubts in what way this product actually reached the market, as it appeared to be made in a very limited amount and we've never seen the packaging of this unit. Was it only meant for the professional market? I've seen it with my own eyes for sale in the internal Philips Personeelswinkel, but that may not represent a full market release. This 21TCDI30/00 TV/CD-i unit is technically a CDI210/40 mainboard combined inside a Philips television. We recently discovered an unreleased CD-i pointing device specifically made for this CD-i/TV unit, thanks to the Home Computer Museum, home of our full CD-i collection.
CD-i Fan took a look at the complete CD-i unit and compared it to the Bang & Olufsen Beocenter AV5:
This is the Complete CD-i unitof the 21TCDI30:
Below is the BEO AV5 CD-i hardware for contrast. CD-i Fan: "This is much more integrated in the TV (custom Mono-IV board with an extra IKAT and custom drivers for it, no regular player shell)."
