A long time ago, in 2007, CD-i member CaptainJ promoted his new website www.philipscd-i.com. He was a big CD-i collector, showing us some very interesting rare promotional items from PMPRO. Unfortunately, he sold his collection and the website never really started to show anything. Somehow today, he put up an auction selling the www.philipscd-i.com domain, along with expensive CD-i items like the Zelda CD-i games.

Another rare piece is his Voyeur 2 copy and the VHS tapes containing the CD-i infomercials. These are, while available on youtube nowadays, special items. Captain_J about the CD-i Infomercial: "in the early 1990's when the philips CD-i came out there was an infomercial that they used to play (remember those middle of the night informercials at 3 in the morning when nothing was on?) late at night for the CD-i. it was about a half hour to an hour and it was just a man sitting in a dark room with a cd-i and a "god" voice talking about the "meaning of life" being the CD-i (which is what insiders call the infomercial). it basically shows him various CD-i titles and convinces him to buy one."

Also his Voyeur 2 copy is worth a look: While the booklet is from the PC CD-ROM version, the discs itself are authentic. Finally, his Space Ace badge we saw before, but it's a nice collection all together. Not worth the asking price, but you won't be able to get it elsewhere right now.

CaptainJ about some rare CD-i items he shows:

  • My prototype copy of Voyeur 2 for the CD-i. This was a Preview and Test Beta copy (although it’s the full game) that was never released. 2 Disc set. The instruction manual AND case is from the PC version, I put it in there for fun since there was never a CD-i version released :)

  •  My original VHS copies of the 2 CD-i late night infomercials from the early 90’s. The Magnavox one and one of the Philips one is the infamous “TV Repairman” infomercial and the other Philips one is from the infamous “Meaning of Life” infomercial, which is my favorite. I purchased these in 2004 from a Philadelphia TV station after searching for over 6 years for them.
  • My Space Ace pin given to me by Don Bluth during a convention I worked with him in 2002 in which the two of us and Rick Dyer were promoting Dragons Lair 3D

  • The website Philipscd-I.com I bought this shortly after CD-i went out, and never had the time to make it the great site I wanted it to be! If you go to the URL, you will see I just have a tribute page but hopefully you can make it something awesome!

[Thanks, CaptainJ]
