Rare Photo CD Records #9 - The Flowers of Robert Mapplethorpe (Philips Infovision, 1992)

This rare CD-i by Philips Infovision actually holds the CD-i logo, but in principle this is more like a Photo CD with some enhanced CD-i features. This means that the disc is playable in every Photo CD compatible CD player, but when you play it in CD-i player, the resolutions are higher, and more zooming options are available. It is a nice feature to enhance a standard Photo CD while still being compatible with every Photo CD player. The disc itself is sought after by the CD-i Community, with prices going high. If you expect some technical highlight, you will be disappointed: All that you can find here are original Robert Mapplethorpe's photographs of flowers, in different settings and varieties. There are references included but that's about it. Philips Infovision created more discs like this, including 'How to Photograph Nature' and 'A National Parks Tour', both on CD-i. As far as we know, 'The Flowers of Robert Mapplethorpe' is one of the rare CD-i discs that was only issued in a longbox USA format. It was not released in Europe, neither did it receive a standard jewelcase edition. That is, as far as we know (we have never seen it)

[Thanks, Seventyy Seven (when his name was still Dizzy)]
