Philips released two official gamepads on the CD-i, both of which were built by Logitech. Recently, CD-i member Retrostuff acquired another CD-i Gamepad which he attempted to repair. As many CD-i gamepads, it suffered from broken cable insulation and an unresponsive D-Pad. As always it is a very informative article and I would like to highlight a little detail he discusses at the end of it. The final part of this article is interesting for me: He found three different labels on the back of the gamepad:
- Nr. 1A 00 9447
- Nr. 1A 01 9510
- Nr. 1A 01 9520
While inside they all have the same PCB markings:CDI JOYPAD REV 1.2
P/N:12290210001-03
Retrostuff: "When
you look closely at the pictures in this article at the very end, you'll see a Calendar
in the controller shells. That's the months when the injection moulding
took place. What's
on the labels is just a guess/deduction based on the data that's
available. I assume that the last four digits are year and Calender week, but we never know with Philips’ confusing versioning scheme. All CD-i products have these numbers/combinations on the
labels (e.g. AH 02 9524 621621 on a DVC from June 1995)."
