This is the first time we see the outer box of the Grundig 100V CD-i player! The outer cardboard boxes are often gone earlier than the CD-i players itself, which is why we always pay extra attention to the packaging of CD-i players. This one is extra special as we haven't seen the Grundig CD-i 100V up close before.
How Grundig got involved in the production of CD-i players
is because it used to be part of Philips from around 1990 to 1996. I
always wondered why Philips never used the Aristona brand to put budget
CD-i players on the market (Like they did with Magnavox),
but they put the use of the Grundig brand by producing an OEM version
of the Philips 220 and 470 CD-i player. The Grundig family had quite
some influence in the contract when Philips came in the picture and it
cost Philips a lot of money to get rid of Grundig in 1996, after it
wasn't a very profitable company. These Grundig CD-i players were sold
in Germany, the home base of Grundig (It's more popular in Germany than
anywhere else). In the end, the Grundig CD-i players are identically
the same as the Philips versions (all parts are the same).
As we see on the back of the player, there is room for the small newer version of the Digital Video Cartridge, which means this Grundig 100V Player is based on either the 220/60 or higher.
