This early version of the Web-i CD-i software is something interesting to be preserved. Your CD-i player was capable of being connected to the Internet thanks to the CD-i Internet kit. It was a package that combined the CD-i KeyControl, a modem and software. In Europe, CD-Online was the partner to offer a subscription model as well as a server host to the CD-i Internet experience. In USA, Philips partnered with Web-i. For a long time we were unsure it even was launched, but it did. And what you are looking at here now is an early version of the Web-i software. A CD-i prototype, dated July 22, 1996. That was a time CD-i was already cancelled by Philips Interactive Media of America, as well as PIMA itself. It is interesting to see this package, as the accompanying CD-i keyboard was labelled CD-Online. Web-i was released in USA in February 1997.The original owner said he was a beta tester for Philips.
