One of the biggest design flaws in CD-i is in our opinion the Timekeeper chip with integrated battery. The technique itself works well but the fact the battery (a CR2032) cannot be replaced once it is empty (at least not in a simple way) shows CD-i was not really future-proof. Modern PC's do not use this technique anymore but it seems consoles like Playstation 4 actually have the same issue, at least in a different form: the CMOS battery. MNeko: "The Playstation 4 has the same issue with a CMOS battery gumming up the works as the CD-i. It may even be worse in this case because it stops discs from being played." We're not sure if more consoles have the same issue (as far as I know, the recent Xbox consoles do not make use of a CMOS battery)
[Thanks, MNeko]
