The very first time we heard something about the Japanese CD-i culture was in 2007 when Devin found a copy of Golgo 13. We all did not know what it was but were very exciting that exclusive CD-i material in Japan was developed. Gradually we found more and more about the availability of CD-i in Japan, about Japan Interactive Media and the role of Philips Interactive Media of America in this. Golgo 13 appears to be an early visual novel, a category that did not really match other genres we know here in the West, but very popular in Japan. It is one of the CD-i games that haven't popped up to be preserved and screenshots and video material is scarce. Its brother, Cyber Soldier Sharaku, was a similar kind of title which did surface a few years back and there's even a playthrough available on youtube. This Golgo 13 seems to be a wish to have for a while to the CD-i preservationists club. Many thanks to Devin for digging this up back in the day, it had quite an influence on other CD-i websites!
[Thanks, Devin]
