Do you remember the CD-i data extraction tools published by Roy in 2015 on the CDInteractive Forum? This repository contains tools for dealing with the Philips CD-I disk format,
also known as 'Green Book'. It contains tools for extracting file system data
from the image, and for decoding audio and image tracks. CD-i member Roy is still here and we might see a new version if the coming future. Roy: "Man i'm looking at @Interact_Dreams's feed and it makes me want to get back into CD-i stuff. i should really put together a new, better version of the disc data extraction tools i wrote. If anyone's curious -- it's not really fit for use out of the box, but i got a little stuck trying to figure out a way to allow people to extract data that was generic enough. The idea i finally arrived at was to basically just offer an API that "simulates" stuff like the disc controller and graphics chip at a high level. so you can read/write data etc.
but that's getting dangerously close to writing an emulator. (the main issue is that the standards for on-disc encoding only specify the way the bulk of the data is encoded -- stuff like colour lookup tables for low bit depth images, or metadata like image sizes is all out of band). Oh, and if anyone wants to pick my brain about the CD-I hardware, i read the spec and i think i have reasonable idea of how everything works now. it's not always super clear about everything."
Of course we welcome Roy to rejoin and work on CD-i, your efforts are highly appreciated!
[Thanks, Roy]
