The developers behind Family Games 2: Junk Food Jive, DIMA, implemented several 'jokes' in the game, like close references to popular game franchises including Mortal Kombat (Mortal Pong), Street Fighter 2 (Super Exploding Pizza 2) and Doom (Room Service), but also some hidden easter-eggs like a fake MS-DOS simulator including various error messages which make you believe your disc is crashing. CD-i member TwBurn remembers a 'god' mode' where you could not die, but he cannot reproduce it anymore.
TwBurn: "We used to play the Family Games a lot in the past, and at one time we got Family Games 2 (I think, could be 1 as well) to boot up in "De-BUG Mode" complete with graphics and such. This was essentially a test mode where you could not die. No idea how we accomplished that and could never reproduce it. Anyone else experience this as well, or know how to get it to work?"
Well, no! Interesting trivia, I think I vaguely remember this from Family Games 2 and someone in the long past mentioned this as well. Who can tell?
It seems that Family Games 2: Junk Food Jive is one of the rare CD-i examples that show some issues on NTSC CD-i players. Jimmy: "Just got my copy of Family Games 2: Junk Food Jive and the minigames that actually scroll (Zapp! and Room Service) weigh the character down to the bottom of the screen and don't allow the use of the "up" button making the games unplayable. Room service even distorts the screen with color bands at the top and bottom! I've tried this on a DVS CD-i, CD-i 450 AND a CD-i 220 and all have the same result. This is the first problem I've ever had with any CD-i game (all Family Games I minigames work for me!) and wonder if these minigames are actually playable? Is it because I'm using a USA region CDi?"
[Thanks, TwBurn, Jimmy]
