The CD-i player that Philips never made but only advertised with in 1989

In the early days of CD-i Philips advertised the format as 'The CD-i Experience'. Philips promoted the upcoming CD-i player with several folders. Like you see here, they advertised CD-i with a CD-i player that doesn't exist. This was probably still in the design phase and it might have existed in a dummy or prototype. This is also the first folder that shows us the Frank Sinatra CD-i, which in the end also remained unreleased. Also the player itself has popped by in a different flyer, but it was never scanned as clear as we see it here.

The folder that American Interactive Media distributed was pressed in 1989, around two years before the actual release of CD-i in 1991. You might wonder what kind of problems Philips ran into when releasing CD-i: Delaying a format in crucial times like the early Nineties made CD-i already a slow format when it was finally released in 1991, as the specs were set in 1988.
