CD-i member GDRI shared with us some great scans from Japanese videogame magazine Famitsu about CD-i. In Issue nr. 167 (date February 28th, 1992) on page 96 and 97, Famitsu shows the upcoming Panasonic CD-i player as well as an upcoming Sony portable CD-i player. Unfortunately, both units were eventually never released. Famitsu also covers some CD-i software including Palm Springs Open and Rochard Scarry's Busiest Neighbourhood, both translated into Japanese thanks to Philips ArtSpace and Japan Interactive Media. CD-i member GDRI: "CD-i player from Panasonic. Panasonic was an early backer of CD-i, but this never came out."
Japan Interactive Media released an extensive collection of CD-i titles,
exclusive for Japan. In all our content and review of CD-i material,
all over the Internet, the part that happened in Japan is almost always
forgotten. I think Interactive Dreams is currently the only place where
you'll find info on what happened in the world of CD-i in Japan. Let's
have a look at the largest Japanese CD-i collection and you'll get a
glimpse on what we'll discuss in the future: Many exclusive Japanese
CD-i content, even some korean CD-i titles. Many translations by the
Philips ArtSpace group, but also Japanese games like Golgo 13, Cyber
Soldier Sharaku and Mah-Jong.
[Thanks, GDRI, Famitsu]
