CD-i member Muh Mullet just found an interestingpiece of CD-i hardware:"This is a Philips CD-i 470 set, distributed by Videotronic Benelux as the CD-i 472,in its original flightcase, complete with Videotronic branded IR remote, Trackball, and DVC installed. I already hooked up a battery holder with a new battery, and replaced the disc tray belt, she's all greased up and ready to go. Just got off the phone with the head of Videotronic Benelux, the company is still active today. He was willing to share some details about this set, and other CD-i related activities they were involved in back in the day. Videotronics specializes in offering video/display solutions on location, and the 472 set was put together in coöperation with Philips, and was used for things ranging from training programs for companies, to displaying building-regulations and certifications on construction-sites. They were even used in rental-bungalows, and in princess-themed kids houses you could put in the garden, complete with a set of children's VCD titles. He will be looking for other stuff from the past, photo's documentation etc, and i'll share anything that comes from that."
With these kind of CD-i players it is always interesting to discover what kind of ROM is inside, as this 472 version was not the regular standard version of the CD-i 470. Retrostuff and Muh Mullet comment: "I think the only differences with a standard 470 are only cosmetic. I am very intrigued by the leaflet and the whole "CD-i 472" denomination together with the flashy "Videotronic" branding on the remote and controller. 472 is only the marketing name and I wasn't expecting anything out of the ordinary.
However, this one has a different ROM version than what I have seen so far: "170513" = ROM ID 70 (normal for 470), 13 = v1.3 (this one is new)."
[Thanks, Muh Mullet]
