New games released by Nintendo in The Netherlands are more and more localized in the dutch language. This obviously counts for more countries/languages, but in a small country like The Netherlands this was not always obvious. In my youth, enjoying Nintendo games between 1985-2000, they were all english only. It was good for learning the English language anyway, but it is different from new games nowadays, as my own children enjoy Nintendo games in our own mother language, Dutch. Well, there was an exception. On the Philips CD-i, we had two Zelda games officially licensed by Nintendo and while they did not produce it, they actually did have a hand in it by being consulted and contributing the cover art. Philips localized these games fully in the Dutch language, which makes these games the very first Nintendo games that were localized (subtitles + voice over) in the Dutch language.
Next to the dutch 'Link: De Gezichten van het Kwaad' this also counts for its twin which was released simultaneously: Zelda: De Toverstaf van Gamelon. How does this count for in other regional versions, like the German or Italian edition? Perhaps the audience was already large enough for Nintendo to create localized version back in the Nineties!
